Robot Pricing Indexes: What They Can and Cannot Show
A price index is a summary, not a quote.
What an index tracks
| Component | What it captures |
|---|---|
| Model class | Price movement within a payload and reach band |
| Configuration | Options and tooling, if normalised |
| Region | Local duties, freight and service |
| Period | Year-on-year movement |
| Currency | Effects of exchange rates |
Using it responsibly
- Normalise configuration before comparing periods.
- Watch mix effects: cheaper models can lower an average without prices falling.
- Treat published lists as list prices, not transaction prices.
Indexes are built from published or surveyed data. Confirm the methodology before quoting one.
